Ashford town centre is a well-connected and important local centre, supporting a diverse mix of businesses and serving a growing community. However, as highlighted in the consultation material, it is not currently reaching its full potential. Businesses have identified a range of challenges, with crime and anti-social behaviour, town centre perception and footfall among the most pressing concerns. Alongside issues such as parking, limited retail and leisure offer, and a lack of coordinated promotion, these factors are impacting confidence, investment and overall vitality.

Despite these challenges, there is strong optimism about the future of Ashford. Businesses believe that, with the right approach, the town can become a more attractive, vibrant and successful destination. A proposed Business Improvement District offers a clear, business-led solution β€” bringing organisations together to invest collectively in improvements that matter most, from safety and cleanliness to marketing, events and business support.

The BID would be shaped by local businesses and focused on delivering practical, visible improvements. Priorities identified include enhancing security and safety, improving the appearance of the town centre, attracting more visitors, and supporting businesses to grow. With strong initial support β€” including the majority of businesses recognising the benefits of additional investment β€” there is a clear opportunity to move forward collaboratively.

Now is the time to act. Without coordinated action, Ashford risks falling behind competing centres. This consultation is an opportunity for businesses to have their say, help shape the BID proposal and ultimately decide its future through a formal ballot. By working together, Ashford can build a stronger identity, improve the town centre experience and create a place where businesses, residents and visitors all benefit.

We want to hear from you. This BID is being developed with local businesses, for local businesses – and your input is essential.
